Thailand is a land of smiles but it’s HOT. Seriously, I came from Thailand so I knew. We were joking that there are 3 seasons in Thailand – HOT, HOTTER and HOTTEST. How did we survive such climate? It’s all about knowing what to do in such situation.
1. Arm yourself with umbrella or hat to give you shade
You will see a lot of people in Thailand walk around with umbrella or something to cover the Sun. Because we know that it’s hot and we don’t want to get burn.

2. Keep it cool from the inside out
There is nothing beat the heat better than a good ice-cold popsicle. Forget about sugar. You and your kids will need to cool down from the inside. One of the best thing Mr. Rojo loves is Watermelon Slushy. It’s refreshing!

3. Use that fan
You know.. that fan that you see they sell it all over the sidewalk. Pick one up. It won’t cost you an arm or a leg but it will save you from the heat exhaustion. It’s all about the circulation.

4. Seek out shelter throughout the day
No matter where you go in Bangkok, there will be plenty of shade or indoor place for you to escape from the heat. Being, it’s a coffee shop, a restaurant, a bookstore or even a Sala. Take a break and give yourself a rest before heading out again. Here was Mr. Z and Miss J during our quick break. A little handheld game came in handy.

I’ve got another one, go during Songkran Festival! The Worlds largest water fight will keep you cool and you will have a fantastic time to boot!
Way important tips, but seldom remember, especially by harried parents. Thanks for the simple reminders.
Also, I wanted to thank you for your kind words. I’ve never met such a supportive person in the web. I know I can lean on you for support. So, thanks a million.
…and take it slow! No need to rush and it’s a good way to keep cool.
Ice-cold beer!
(Not for children, though.) ;D
@Dave&Deb: Yeah a great one. Nothing beat the heat and give more fun than water fight.
@Jen: You are most welcome. I’m so glad to know you.
@Anil: Yup. Take it slow is really important too. Plus you can’t let traffic in BKK get to ya.
@Rich: Ah.. Important tip for parent! :)
Ah, if only there were plenty of public pools. Growing up in hot & humid Florida, they were our saviors growing up!
The icy popsicles were great, too :)
Hey Amy Q,
Great post, and we sure can relate to the tips! Seven-Elevens were a safe haven for us, and a great place to cool off. Our daughter Emma would always mention it when she saw one (which was every 5 minutes), “Let’s go to 7-11 and cool off!”
brilliant tips. hope that marble resting place was COOL. i don’t do well with being hot (heat stroke) and so am always looking for ways to cool down. thanks!
Its weird, I know it’s hot in Thailand, but I never thought of it as unbearable!
When I first moved to Taiwan during the summer season I used to use convenience stores, when out walking, as my refuge from the heat.
In Bangkok I used a similar strategy coupled with lots of cool showers through-out the day.
Do not go during Song Kran,, April is the hottest month. Better during december and january ;)
Ok, Song Kran is very fun i just thought of the weather.
Lots of fun reading here, thanks.
