This is the shot of the White House as close as we could get. We went to DC during Spring Break which coincided to the Cherry Blossom festival and added that to the new president who just recently moved in, we competed with a lot of people to secure the ticket to visit the White House and luck wasn’t on our side. But that didn’t discourage us to make our final destination on our last day in DC to be the White House.
First we stopped by at the White House Visitor Center. We were a bit late to watch the free video about the White House history. But there are plenty of other interesting things for you to see. The exhibits throughout the room show the history of the White House. Kids could sit down and enjoy some game or craft. Parents can shop the White House souvenir like jigsaw puzzle of the White House.
Then we continued along the 15th Street NW to check out the exterior of the White House. I was determined to get the most famous pose with the White House front lawn. Unfortunately, the access to that section was closed that day. So we continued our walk to the Lafayette Square to get the backyard shot of the White House. The square was a nice area with only foot traffic so it’s perfect for kids to roam around. After we fueled up at Old Ebbitt Grill, we walked all the way to the Tidal Basin for one last shot of the Cherry flowers.
Adios DC, till we meet again.

Hi to the dlightful Mrs. Q,
I love the way your new blog looks!!!
I gave you an award at my blog before I realized that someone had already passed it to you. but, I wanted to still give it :)
Thanks for sharing your travel adventure tales with all of us!
Sorry you missed the White House tour. Hopefully your travels will bring you back when the kids can enjoy it even more. I remember going in 8th grade. It was the perfect time for that kind of excursion since we were studying US history.
How did you find the tour?
Some people are disappointed with the limited areas you get to see.
Since you didn’t make it inside, it all goes to show, you have to return:)
Photo Friday – Beautiful Lago Amatitlan
Good picture of the blossom flower. Too bad you couldn’t make it inside for a tour, but it gives you a reason to head back again.

@Jen: Thank you!! You are such a sweetheart.
@Anil: Typically, I have to call my state or senate representative and request a ticket through them about 3-4 months in advance. Unfortunately, when we went, it was one of the busiest week in DC (the Cherry Blossom week) so that week tickets were gone 6 months in advance.
@Cate & @Marina: Yes. We love it there. There are so many kid-friendly to do so we would go back in a heartbeat.
Hi Amy! Sorry you didn’t make it inside but I love the shot from afar. It’s been a long time since the White House has been as sexy as it is right now… think JFK.
I visited DC as a student and loved it, but wore out my shoes from so much walking! I’d love to go back with my kids. Even though we live in London, they know all about Barak Obama!
I’m sorry you were not able to get inside or closer. It looks like it was a great time anyway. I love those cherry blossoms!
Great shot of the White House anyway! Like several other people mentioned, it’s always good to leave something undone so you have an excuse to return!
I’m always embarrassed to admit that I’ve never been to my nation’s capital, and I’ve never seen the White House. When I teach English classes and we talk about travel, my students exclaim, “You’ve been to China but not Washington, D.C.?” I love your photos. I hope I can see it in person someday!
I’ve never been inside the White House myself but surely, you can always go back there next time. The Cherry blossoms at the Tidal Basin is a great outdoor beauty anyway!
Hi Amy!
Thanks for stopping by our blog the other day. I love blogs like yours about traveling with family!
