Suvarnabhumi Airport is Thailand main hub in Bangkok that opened a few years ago. I’m pretty sure anyone visiting Thailand will have to go through this airport. I found that it was very interesting to walk around this airport and see the contrast between maintaining the thousand years old culture and keeping up with the new Western world style like GUCCI. It seems like the old world and the new world has collided peacefully here in this airport.

I love the new design, the clean look and minimal deco but I have heard a lot of criticisms from my families and friends that a lot of people feel that it’s too harsh. It doesn’t give the warm and fuzzy feeling that Thai tends to show. I don’t know how much have changed since but I will know soon enough. Put the design aside, one thing that I can always count on with Thai airport is the Duty Free Shopping section. Mr. Rojo had the best time browsing around shops after shops in the duty free. Unfortunately, it was the end of our trip so we pretty much ran out of fund.

nice collision :) I’m remembering 9/11 today here’s my link Have a nice Friday!
Airport shopping is the only positive thing about the end of a trip. I like the way you captured the contrast of old and new in the first photo with the Gucci sign half hidden in the background.
One of my co-workers is leaving for Thailand tomorrow. I’ll have to send him over to read your posts. Great pictures!
The first photo makes me laugh…so true old world and new colliding…the Gucci sign in the back is too funny!
I LOVE the composition of that second shot! So cool!
It’s funny that you say the collision is ‘peaceful’ given that rebels kept airline passengers hostage here just a few months ago!
I guess, a lot of the old world gets preserved with someone like Gucci, giving the money to show what it used to be like! I guess money makes all collisions work.
I always enjoy looking at cool architectural photos, so I’m really enjoying the second shot :)
Wow! Those costumes are amazing. I love the architecture as well. Very cool.
Wow! great shots. I do like it when new designs integrate culture and history. Well done for Bangkok!
The first picture is pretty cool. Bet it was an interesting place to visit.
I have spent too much time in this airport and yes, I think it would be better with a wooden structure and a nice warm atmosphere but after all its a place most people just walks through and spend a few boring hours. An airport is an airport and there are probably easier to maintain a minimalistic structure too. Just guessing. Thats how I see it :D
