For cheap and scenic…Here in San Diego the Coaster light rail train runs right along the ocean. My kids love the trip and it is a great way to get around San Diego. If I remember correctly one small child per adult rides free, but do the research on that one.

Roaring Camp in Santa Cruz has beautiful old steam trains that run through the redwoods and to the beach.

holy cow! My child’s now grown, but I have every intention of enjoying these train rides by myself or with the hubby. How did you find all these? Great posts!

Oh wow! the Cape Cod train isn’t too far from us and sounds like fun. We took a train from Boston to Maine a few years ago, and my daughter loved it. It was so scenic and relaxing, so we’d love to do it again :)

@Momisodes: Let me know how you like it when you get a chance to do it. It looks very nice.

@Tammie: It’s perfect for both kids and adults. :) I think I just use my son as an excuse to research on this post. Deep down I want to ride all of them myself.

@Dave&Deb: Doesn’t it look totally amazing?

@Bridget: Thanks for the recommendation in San Diego. Yet another reason that I have to keep writing about train trips. Can’t possibly cover them all. :)

Came across your website when I was looking for a train trip for kids that I had been told about by a friend. It originates in Tampa, Florida and I think that it goes to Lakeland, Florida. Can’t find anything on it though. Help!
